Antique shop in River Heights being forced to move

Country Village Antique Mall, in River Heights, is being forced out of its location to make room for a new Starbucks.

Kristie Johnson, the owner of the antique shop, said the move was unexpected.

“They gave us 60 days to get up and get out,” Johnson said. “I had a contract until July but there was a clause on the last page that I was not aware of. It said if they sold the property they could terminate me and my business at any time.”

Johnson said despite the short amount of time allotted to move, they found a good location.

“It’s a brand new building in Logan,” Johnson said. “They are sheet-rocking it now but it is supposed to be done soon. We are cutting it pretty close.”

Country Village Antique Mall has to be out of the space on Dec. 19 and is expecting to open at the new location on Dec. 21.

As a result of moving so abruptly the store is offering 50 percent off on select pieces from its inventory.

“Our profits have been really good the last couple of months because of the sale,” Johnson said. “Everything that we don’t sell, we will move to the new location.”

Robert Price is a frequent customer at Country Village Antique Mall.

“I have been here quite a few times,” Price said. “I mostly come and check out what they have because they change their inventory all the time. I will definitely be going to their new location when they move.”
